Soccer AM is a staple of Saturday morning British television. It has been a permanent fixture for football fans since 1995. The shows enduring popularity has been in no small part thanks to the quality of its segments. One of the most popular is Skill School. In this feature the team visit various football academies up and down the country, pitting two players against each other in a competition to determine who is the most skilful.
Throughout the years there have been some famous faces to have featured in this portion of the show, and we will continue to show you them this week.
Danny Ings is a familiar face to all Premier League fans, but he was a little known teenager when he made his bow on Skill School as a Bournemouth trainee.
The 2010-11 season saw Ings make his league debut for the Cherries. His 7 goals in 26 appearances helped the club reach the semi-finals of the League One playoffs. The striker’s performances caught the eye of many suitors, he eventually ended up with Burnley, whom he fired to promotion in 2013-14 season with 21 Championship goals.
Ings proved he had the mettle for the Premier League, netting 11 goals in 35 games as he battled in vein to keep Burnley in the top-flight. A drop back down to the Championship was not on the cards for Ings, instead he moved to Liverpool. Tragically his time at Anfield was wrecked by serious injuries.
Ings is now back on the South Coast with Southampton rebuilding his Premier League career. With a bit of luck, i.e. he can stay injury free, Ings may be able to add to his solitary England cap.
